SCENE: A cozy restaurant on a sunny afternoon. A customer walks in and is greeted by a friendly server near the entrance.

SERVER: Good afternoon! Just one today?

JENNIFER: Yes, table for one, please.

SERVER: Perfect! Follow me. How about this table by the window?

JENNIFER: That’s great, thank you.

SERVER: Here’s your menu. My name’s Alan, I’ll be taking care of you today. Can I start you off with something to drink?

JENNIFER: Um, let me look at the menu first. What are the specials today?

ALAN: Sure! For starters, we have a really delicious mushroom soup. And our special today is fish and chips with a side of coleslaw.

JENNIFER: Fish and chips sounds good! Is the fish fresh?

ALAN: Absolutely! We get it delivered fresh every morning from the harbor.

JENNIFER: Perfect! I’ll have that then.

ALAN: Great choice! Would you like to start with an appetizer or soup?

JENNIFER: Hmm, I’m not too hungry. Maybe just a small salad?

ALAN: No problem. Our house salad is really popular. It comes with mixed greens and balsamic vinaigrette.

JENNIFER: That sounds perfect. I’ll take that.

ALAN: Excellent. And what would you like to drink?

JENNIFER: Just sparkling water, please.

ALAN: You got it. So that’s one house salad, fish and chips, and sparkling water. I’ll get that started for you right away.

JENNIFER: Thank you!

About 30 minutes later, after Jennifer finishes her meal.

ALAN: How was everything?

JENNIFER: It was delicious! The fish was so fresh.

ALAN: I’m glad you enjoyed it! Can I get you anything else? Coffee or dessert?

JENNIFER: No, I’m good. Just the check, please.

ALAN: Sure thing. I’ll be right back.

Alan returns with the bill.

ALAN: Here you go. No rush!

JENNIFER: Thanks! Here’s my card.

Alan processes the payment and returns.

ALAN: Alright, here’s your receipt. Thank you so much!

JENNIFER: Thank you! Everything was great. Have a good day!ALAN: You too! Come back and see us soon!

38. At the Restaurant 38. No Restaurante

SCENE: A cozy restaurant on a sunny afternoon. A customer walks in and is greeted by a friendly server near the entrance. CENA: Um restaurante aconchegante em uma tarde ensolarada. Um cliente entra e é recebido por um garçom simpático perto da entrada.

SERVER: Good afternoon! Just one today? GARÇOM: Boa tarde! Só um hoje?

JENNIFER: Yes, table for one, please. JENNIFER: Sim, mesa para um, por favor.

SERVER: Perfect! Follow me. How about this table by the window? GARÇOM: Perfeito! Me siga. Que tal esta mesa perto da janela?

JENNIFER: That’s great, thank you. JENNIFER: Está ótimo, obrigada.

SERVER: Here’s your menu. My name’s Alan, I’ll be taking care of you today. Can I start you off with something to drink? GARÇOM: Aqui está seu cardápio. Meu nome é Alan, vou cuidar de você hoje. Posso começar te oferecendo algo para beber?

JENNIFER: Um, let me look at the menu first. What are the specials today? JENNIFER: Hum, deixa eu olhar o cardápio primeiro. Quais são os especiais de hoje?

JENNIFER: Fish and chips sounds good! Is the fish fresh? JENNIFER: Peixe com batatas fritas parece bom! O peixe é fresco?

ALAN: Absolutely! We get it delivered fresh every morning from the harbor. ALAN: Absolutamente! Recebemos entrega fresca todas as manhãs do porto.

JENNIFER: Perfect! I’ll have that then. JENNIFER: Perfeito! Vou querer isso então.

ALAN: Great choice! Would you like to start with an appetizer or soup? ALAN: Ótima escolha! Gostaria de começar com um aperitivo ou sopa?

JENNIFER: Just sparkling water, please. JENNIFER: Só água com gás, por favor.
