Jack: Sofia! It’s so good to see you again after all this time!

Jack: Thanks! I have to admit, I don’t know that much about Portugal.
Sofia: Don’t worry—I’m going to show you everything worth seeing over the next month. We’re going to be busy!
Jack: I can’t wait! I know Portugal isn’t huge, but there’s supposed to be a lot packed into it.
Sofia: Exactly! We’re starting here in Porto, so we’ll begin in the north and make our way south.
Jack: Perfect. I’ve read about Porto’s wine cellars and the old bookshop.
Sofia: Oh yes! The port wine cellars are amazing—we’ll definitely do a tasting tour. Then we’ll head to the Douro Valley to see the vineyards and maybe do some hiking.
Jack: That sounds incredible! Good thing I packed my hiking boots.

Sofia: After that, we’ll visit some medieval castles—Guimarães and Óbidos are beautiful. We can have lunch there and just soak in the history.
Jack: Wow, I love it! Will we have time to go to the Algarve? I’ve heard the beaches there are stunning.
Sofia: Absolutely! The Algarve has gorgeous cliffs, hidden caves, and some of the best beaches in Europe. The water’s amazing.

Sofia: And of course, we have to spend time in Lisbon, our capital.
Jack: I don’t know much about Lisbon, but I know it’s really old.
Sofia: It’s over 3,000 years old—one of the oldest cities in Europe! It sits on seven hills overlooking the Tagus River, and has about 500,000 people in the city center.
Jack: Can we take a boat on the river?
Sofia: Of course! We can also ride the famous tram 28, visit Belém Tower, and explore the Alfama district. Oh, and the food—you’re going to love the seafood and pastéis de nata!
Jack: This trip sounds amazing! I’m so excited!
Sofia: Well, for now, let’s relax. I made bacalhau—traditional Portuguese cod—to welcome you properly.
