Thomas: Hey Ellen! How’s it going?
Ellen: Good! What about you?
Thomas: Pretty good! So, are you going to the dance next Friday?
Ellen: I really want to, but I can’t.
Thomas: Why not? It’s going to be so fun!
Ellen: I know! But it’s my sister’s birthday that night, and my mom’s making this whole special dinner.
Thomas: Oh man, that’s tough timing. Can’t you go to the dance and then dinner after?
Ellen: The dance ends at ten, and dinner’s at six. It doesn’t really work out.
Thomas: That’s too bad. We always have a good time at these things.
