Two friends are having coffee together at a small café.

Mark: Hey, Olivia! It’s so nice to see you.

Olivia: You too! How’s your family doing?

Mark: Oh, you know — same old, same old. My wife is loving her new job, and little Josh just finished first grade.

Olivia: That’s wonderful! How’s your sister doing?

Mark: Julia? She’s doing alright. She’s been pretty sick lately, but I think she’s getting better.

Olivia: Oh, I’m so sorry to hear that. Please send her my best.

Mark: I will. But enough about me — what’s new with you?

Olivia: Well, my brother Kevin just got married! He’s on his honeymoon in Greece right now.

Mark: Wow, I’m jealous! All we did for our honeymoon was spend a weekend in the mountains.

Olivia: (laughing) I know, right? He’s so lucky! Our parents actually gave them the trip as a wedding gift. I just hope they’ll have some money left for my honeymoon someday!

Mark: (smiling) Oh, so is there someone special in your life right now?

Olivia: Not really. I’ve just been so busy with work — it’s hard to find time to date.

Mark: Yeah, I get that. But enjoy being single while it lasts — family life can be a handful!

Olivia: (grinning) I can imagine! I’m in no hurry, though. Someday I’d love to have kids, but right now, I feel like I’m too young for that.

Mark: You’ll know when the time is right.Olivia: Yeah, I think you’re right.

9. How’s the Family? 9. Como Está a Família?

Two friends are having coffee together at a small café. Dois amigos estão tomando café juntos em um pequeno café.

Mark: Hey, Olivia! It’s so nice to see you. Mark: Ei, Olivia! É tão bom te ver.

Olivia: You too! How’s your family doing? Olivia: Você também! Como está sua família?

Mark: Oh, you know — same old, same old. My wife is loving her new job, and little Josh just finished first grade. Mark: Ah, sabe como é — tudo igual. Minha esposa está amando seu novo emprego, e o pequeno Josh acabou de terminar a primeira série.

Olivia: That’s wonderful! How’s your sister doing? Olivia: Que maravilha! Como está sua irmã?

Mark: Julia? She’s doing alright. She’s been pretty sick lately, but I think she’s getting better. Mark: Julia? Ela está bem. Tem estado bem doente ultimamente, mas acho que está melhorando.

Olivia: Oh, I’m so sorry to hear that. Please send her my best. Olivia: Ah, sinto muito em ouvir isso. Por favor, mande minhas melhoras.

Mark: I will. But enough about me — what’s new with you? Mark: Mandarei. Mas chega de falar de mim — o que há de novo com você?

Olivia: Well, my brother Kevin just got married! He’s on his honeymoon in Greece right now. Olivia: Bem, meu irmão Kevin acabou de se casar! Ele está em lua de mel na Grécia agora.

Mark: Wow, I’m jealous! All we did for our honeymoon was spend a weekend in the mountains. Mark: Uau, estou com inveja! Tudo que fizemos na nossa lua de mel foi passar um fim de semana nas montanhas.

Olivia: (laughing) I know, right? He’s so lucky! Our parents actually gave them the trip as a wedding gift. I just hope they’ll have some money left for my honeymoon someday! Olivia: (rindo) Eu sei, né? Ele tem tanta sorte! Nossos pais na verdade deram a viagem como presente de casamento. Só espero que sobre algum dinheiro para minha lua de mel algum dia!

Mark: (smiling) Oh, so is there someone special in your life right now? Mark: (sorrindo) Ah, então há alguém especial na sua vida agora?

Olivia: Not really. I’ve just been so busy with work — it’s hard to find time to date. Olivia: Na verdade não. Tenho estado tão ocupada com trabalho — é difícil encontrar tempo para namorar.

Mark: Yeah, I get that. But enjoy being single while it lasts — family life can be a handful! Mark: É, entendo isso. Mas aproveite estar solteira enquanto dura — vida em família pode ser trabalhosa!

Olivia: (grinning) I can imagine! I’m in no hurry, though. Someday I’d love to have kids, but right now, I feel like I’m too young for that. Olivia: (sorrindo) Posso imaginar! Mas não tenho pressa. Algum dia adoraria ter filhos, mas agora, sinto que sou jovem demais para isso.

Mark: You’ll know when the time is right. Mark: Você vai saber quando for a hora certa.

Olivia: Yeah, I think you’re right. Olivia: É, acho que você está certo.
