Oksana: Uh, sure… but I’m a little shy, and I’m worried my English isn’t very good.
Shaun: Don’t worry about it! They’re really nice and excited to meet you.
Oksana: Alright then!
(Shaun calls out to his parents.)
Shaun: Mom! Dad! Come meet my new study buddy!
(Shaun’s parents walk in.)
Shaun: This is my friend Oksana. She’s an exchange student from Ukraine.
Shaun’s Mom: Well, hello there! It’s so nice to meet you!
Shaun’s Dad: Welcome to the United States — and to our home!
Oksana: Thank you very much. You have such a lovely house.
Shaun’s Mom: That’s so kind of you to say. And your English is wonderful! Where did you learn it so well?
Oksana: Back in Ukraine, at school. When I was in ninth grade, I had a Peace Corps volunteer as my English teacher, and she really helped me improve.
Shaun’s Mom: Oh, that’s wonderful! What a great experience.
Shaun’s Dad: Would you like some tea or maybe something to eat? I heard Ukrainians really enjoy tea.
Oksana: That’s true! But no, thank you — I think we should probably start studying.
Shaun: Yeah, we’ve got a big math test tomorrow. Lots to review!
Shaun’s Mom: Alright, if you need anything, just let us know. We’ll be in the living room.
Shaun: Thanks, Mom.
Oksana: It was very nice meeting you both!
Shaun’s Dad: You too, Oksana. Good luck with your test tomorrow!
