SCENE: The lobby of a mid-range hotel in the evening. A tired traveler approaches the front desk with a backpack and rolling suitcase. The receptionist looks up from her computer and smiles.

RECEPTIONIST: Good evening! How can I help you?

MICHAEL: Hi! I need a room for tonight.

RECEPTIONIST: Of course! Would you prefer a single or a double?

MICHAEL: Just a single, please. How much is that?

RECEPTIONIST: It’s $85 per night, plus tax.

MICHAEL: That works. Can I pay with a credit card?

RECEPTIONIST: Absolutely. We accept Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. Could you fill out this registration form for me?

MICHAEL: Sure. Do you need my passport number?

RECEPTIONIST: Yes, please. And we’ll also need your home address and a signature at the bottom.

Michael fills out the form and hands it back.

MICHAEL: Here you are.

RECEPTIONIST: Perfect, thank you. Okay, you’re all set! You’re in room 318. Here’s your key card.

MICHAEL: Great. Where are the elevators?

RECEPTIONIST: Just go down this hall and they’ll be on your right. You can’t miss them.

MICHAEL: Awesome, thanks!

RECEPTIONIST: You’re very welcome! Oh, and if you need anything during your stay, just dial 0 from your room phone to reach the front desk.

MICHAEL: Got it. Thanks so much!RECEPTIONIST: My pleasure! Enjoy your stay!

23. Checking in to a Hotel 23. Fazendo Check-in em um Hotel

SCENE: The lobby of a mid-range hotel in the evening. A tired traveler approaches the front desk with a backpack and rolling suitcase. The receptionist looks up from her computer and smiles. CENA: O saguão de um hotel de médio porte à noite. Um viajante cansado se aproxima da recepção com uma mochila e mala de rodinhas. A recepcionista levanta o olhar do computador e sorri.

RECEPTIONIST: Good evening! How can I help you? RECEPCIONISTA: Boa noite! Como posso ajudá-lo?

MICHAEL: Hi! I need a room for tonight. MICHAEL: Oi! Preciso de um quarto para hoje à noite.

RECEPTIONIST: Of course! Would you prefer a single or a double? RECEPCIONISTA: Claro! Você prefere solteiro ou casal?

MICHAEL: Just a single, please. How much is that? MICHAEL: Só solteiro, por favor. Quanto é?

RECEPTIONIST: It’s $85 per night, plus tax. RECEPCIONISTA: São $85 por noite, mais impostos.
